| statement | On Echo “The past meets the present in color and form” (Birgit Ramsauer). Echo intends to investigate this idea. Twofold in structure, it represents a mirror effect: Part I – listen: the past lives in the present Part II – question: the past re-invented Departing from William Byrd’s “The Bells", composed in the early 17th century, the audience is asked to engage in the significance of old music in the present. In contrast, the second part questions and reconsiders the function of the historical instrument in the context of new media. Echo does not judge. Rather, it fosters a critique with the audience, exploring our notions of authenticity, genuineness and our inherited values. Many thanks to Egino Klepper for suggesting „The Bells“. |
