ART : HOME -- LESS

Berlin

Holy Hole

location:
the Brandenburg Gate, a historical monument, never used as an ordinary entrance to the city, but now open to the public, I confront with coloured photocopies of New York City holes: potholes, holes in the sidewalk, holes in the building walls.
date:
1999
material:
fluorescent green gaffertape (2 inch),
sand, wallpaper paste, coloured copies, tape
photographer:
Karin Desmarowitz

These work as traces of time. These traces I place on the nearly untouched street. At ther same time I block the entrances of the arches with small sculptures made of sand. The sand represents the material of the newly „excavated“ Berlin.
